In the first quarter of 2023, the top sandbox-like games on the Android platform in Africa showed diverse performance patterns in terms of weekly downloads, revenue, and active users. Here’s a closer look at the performance of Roblox, Minecraft, Play Together, IMVU: Social Chat & Avatar app, and ZEPETO: Avatar, Connect & Live.

Roblox experienced fluctuations in weekly revenue, starting at around $94K in late December 2022 and dipping to $37.7K by mid-March, before rising to approximately $63K by the end of March. Weekly downloads showed an overall upward trend, reaching a peak of 94.3K in mid-March. The app maintained a robust number of weekly active users, fluctuating between 2.5M and 2.7M throughout the quarter.

Minecraft had relatively stable weekly revenue, generally hovering around $3K to $5K, with a slight peak at $5.4K in the final week of March. Weekly downloads, however, were on a downward trend, dropping from 2K in late December to around 181 by the end of March. Despite this, the weekly active users remained stable, ranging between 51K and 57K.

Weekly downloads also saw a rise, reaching 1.8K in the same period. The app's weekly active users experienced a slight decline from 7.6K in late December to around 6.1K by mid-March, before rising again to 6.2K by the end of the quarter.

IMVU: Social Chat & Avatar app had a steady weekly revenue, ranging from $540 to $1.1K, with a peak of $1.1K at the end of January. Weekly downloads fluctuated significantly, starting at 3.6K in late December, peaking at 12.6K in early January, and stabilizing around 2.1K by the end of March. The weekly active users also showed fluctuations, ranging from 13.1K to 25.8K throughout the quarter.

Finally, ZEPETO: Avatar, Connect & Live showed a decline in weekly revenue from $1.3K in late January to $215 by mid-March, before slightly recovering to $425 by the end of March. Weekly downloads saw a significant peak of 79.1K in mid-January but decreased to 35.8K by the end of March. The app maintained a strong number of weekly active users, ranging from 228K to 431K throughout the quarter.
